Leaving careers in mining, in 1990 Joss and Anna De Iuliis converted a Lower Hunter Valley grazing property to vineyards, establishing de iuliis. They began as growers, but in 1999 their son Michael shifted the focus to winemaking.

The original de iuliis vineyard lies along Lovedale Road on clay loam over friable red clay soils. They also source fruit from other Hunter Valley sites, including their Steven Vineyard at Pokolbin. The focus is on low yields and concentrated flavours with distinct Hunter regionality. In the winery – designed by Lionel Glendenning, architect of Sydney's Powerhouse Museum – they take an attention to detail, small batch winemaking approach.

Included in de iuliis's leading Single Vineyard range, the Steven Vineyard Shiraz and LDR (Lovedale Road) Vineyard Shiraz Touriga are highlights. Semillon and Chardonnay lead their white wines.
